For August: The Island Adventure Box
This month, we're whisking you away to four of our favorite islands of the Puget Sound: Bainbridge, Vashon, Lopez, and Lummi Island.  The Pantry Box includes products from small, artisan makers that capture the spirit of their island home. We'll include a guide for each of the islands in case you'd like to take the box along with you on your own island adventure (just try not to eat it all while on the ferry ride)!
With sandwiching and picnicking in mind, we'll also include a book of recommendations, pairings and combinations to enjoy the products in a variety of ways.

Wild Ferment Cider by Dragon's Head Cider

Located on Vashon Island, Laura takes a traditional approach to cider making: growing, fermenting, and bottling the fruit all on the farm. The Wild Ferment Cider is composed of a blend of heirloom and English apple varieties including Jonagold, Elstar, Macintosh, Jonathan, Gravenstein, Porter’s Perfection, and Dabinett.

Sourdough Crackers from Barn Owl Bakery

The folks at Barn Owl Bakery sure know about bread and it’s key role in the community! For over 8 years, they have partnered with Island Grist and Horse Drawn Farm to grow heritage grains right on Lopez Island. This artisanal craft bakery relies solely on wild leaven to provide a depth of local flavor, which is baked to perfection in their wood-fired oven.

Smoked Sockeye Salmon from Lummi Island Wild Co-Op

Riley Starks moved to Lummi Island in 1992 and helped found Lummi Island Wild, Nettles Farm, and the modern Willows Inn. Taking an active role in the farm-to-table movement, Starks has been constantly moving to weave sustainable fishery into the community. The Smoked Sockeye Salmon is a Good Food Awards winner of 2020.

Cheese Trio (Chadds Ford, Feronia, and Jubilee) from Venison Valley

Kelsey is the cheese-whiz of Vashon Island. She and her partner, Ben, care for Belle and Willow, the two lovely pasture-raised cows of Venison Valley Farm and Creamery. Chadds Ford is a raw milk tomme aged between 3 to 9 months that develops a unique flavor and texture depending on the season. Feronia has a sweeter and brighter profile that works excellent as a melting cheese. Jubilee is a young raclette-style cheese crafted in the fall when the cow’s milk is at its creamiest.

Bacon Jam from The Ruby Brink

Spurred from the dreams of three friends with a fundamental passion for food, farming, and community, The Ruby Brink has become a must-eat staple of Vashon Island. With a fierce dedication for thoughtful sourcing of all ingredients and whole animal butchery, their seasonal menu is definitely something to drool over!
